For players from Grade 5 upward — a supportive first orchestra, with chances to solo, compose and even try conducting.
The Sinfonietta is the natural first step for young players ready for orchestral music. Alongside the core repertoire, the ensemble offers solo, student-composer and young-conductor opportunities, and feeds talented players up into the Wellington Youth Orchestra.
It is led by Music Director Chris van der Zee. To join, submit the online form plus a short audio recording — see auditions & excerpts.
The simple version: Rehearsals are every Saturday during term, 9:30am–12:00pm, at the Adam Concert Room (NZSM, Kelburn) — map
Plain dates are ordinary Saturdays. Watch only the amber chips (a different day or venue — tap for a map where it’s known) and the concert rows.

Reproduced from the current WYS schedule (marked preliminary). Where the old schedule said only “not in ACR”, we’ve flagged the venue as TBC for the committee to confirm and add a map — a parent needs to know where to drop off.
